Cheryl Did It!!!! Over the course of 37 days Cheryl hiked 500 miles and has surpassed her goal of raising $5000.00 for Operation Smile!
The last 100 miles were tough for her to get done, as her mind and body were just getting very tired. She rested and fueled up when she needed to and challanged herself to just keep hiking and each day set out her goal for the day and didnt stop until she got there!
Over the last month plus, Cheryl had taken lots of great pictures and video's and has put some on her YouTube channel for everyone to understand and appreciate what her days were like on the Pacific Crest Trail. Please check out CherylHikes to watch her amazing video's.
Cheryl is on her way home and can't wait to reunite with her family, sleep in her own bed and to enjoy a nice warm homemade meal!
Thank You to all the amazing donations and support. At least 27 children will be able to have this life changing surgery! Thank You from the bottom of our Hearts.....
April 22, 2022 - update
Cheryl has surpassed 400 miles!! She has hiked through the forests, rivers and up and on the edges of the mountains! She has been higher then a plane passing through and has experienced a hot spring! She has had some easy trails and some very challanging trails, both physically and mentally!
We had to send Cheryl a pair of lulu stretch pants from her daughters closest, as Cheryl had a couple of falls and ripped hers, and she knows those pants work well for hiking so we sent her a package for her to pick up when she gets to the town we sent it to. Cheryl also had to buy a new pair of shoes at one of her overnights in a town, as she wore right through hers and was feeling every stone under her feet! Fingers crossed for no blisters!!
Cheryl is feeling great and no major issues, aside from a few blisters and stiffness from those long days of hiking! She has done a few 20 plus Mile days!! Totally amazing!!
Thank You to everyone who has supported her and Operation Smile. Cheryl has surpassed her goal of $5000, so now we are seeing just how much more she can fundraise!!
April 7, 2022 - Update!
Cheryl has already made it to the 100 mile mark on the Pacific Crest Trail!! She started her journey on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. A day later then planned due to a very bad wind storm that was occuring on Monday in San Diego. She has had to take a couple days rest to ice her legs and to tend to blisters on her feet but she is okay and is trekking on! The elevation has quickly changed in some areas, and so the climb has been challanging at times however Cheryl is enjoying the beautiful views and scenery. Please keep her in your thoughts as she continues on this dream of her's while supporting so many babies born with Cleft Lip and Palate just like she was! Please follow her on YouTube or IG!
Dear Friends, Family and Fellow Hikers
I am on my way to hiking the first 500 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, which starts at the California/Mexican and goes all the way to Washington/BC Canada. The trail itself is 2650 miles long, and although I am just doing a little bit of it, 500 miles is still a long trek, it will take me 2 months to complete.
If, for some reason I cannot complete my 500 miles, I will be doing some Trail "Angels" work for my fellow hikers-Trail Angels help support hikers and give them "Trail Magic" on their journey. (Provide food, drinks, rides)
Though this is a personal journey, I want to give back and Operation Smile Canada is close to my heart.
This foundation gives children around the world affected by cleft lip and cleft palate, surgery to change their life. It only takes $240.00 to provide one child with this surgery. You can make a real difference with $240.00- That is two pairs of shoes, which often only last for one year-$240 dollars in this case will last a life time.
As a Cleft lip and Cleft Palate baby myself, I am forever grateful to have been born in Canada, where health care access is not an issue, and I want to give back-one day I hope to be on site and see these kids in person, but that's another dream (one dream at a time)
My goal is to raise $5000.00. Which will help 20 kids! Please Help me bring hope and new smiles to children affected by facial differences by supporting my fundraising goal.
