Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! As many of you know, I’m very passionate about the work that Operation Smile does around the world each day and have even become a credentialled volunteer. I was recently back in Ghana for my third mission where volunteers again came from all around the world to perform life changing and saving surgeries on almost 100 children and adults living with a cleft condition.

I met a mother who had travelled over 18 hours alone with her son (and nothing else) by foot and bus to get him the surgery he needed-which she successfully did! I also met a 60 year old patient named Comfort who never had access before to the surgical care she needed to live a life beyond closed doors. I’m happy to report she also  finallyreceived the surgery she needed.

This isn’t just about making the patient’s smile nicer, this is about ensuring they can eat, speak and ultimately live a fulfilled life. In many cases, it even saves their lives.

We may not think about it every day, but we all won the lottery simply by being born where we were born. We have access to healthcare, education, clean water, ample food supplies, the list goes on and on. While it’s important to help in the communities we live in, it’s also crucial that we support abroad as global citizens. It’s “and” vs. “or”.
