How do I register?

We've tried to make the process as easy as possible. With just a few clicks you can register a Cycle for SMILES personal page or a Cycle for SMILES team page:

  1. Click the “Sign-Up” button at the top of the page
  2. If you are an individual, Click on “Individual”
    If you would like to create or join a team: Choose the type of team, then on the next page, choose to create or join a team
  3. Follow the steps in the registration form

Is there a registration fee?

No, there is no registration fee. We do encourage you to kick off your personal fundraising by making a personal donation to your Cycle for SMILES page.

How do I join an existing team?

Easy!

  1. Click the “Sign-Up” button at the top of the page
  2. Click “Search for a participant” or “Search for a team”
  3. Search by the participant’s name or by a team name
  4. Click on the team name under “Team Name”
  5. Click on “Join Our Team”
  6. Follow registration form instructions

Do I have to raise a minimum amount to participate?

No, you do not have to raise a minimum amount to participate in the Cycle for SMILES, that being said we suggest you try to raise a minimum of $240 which is the average amount needed to provide basic surgery. Choosing a goal based on this number is a great way to communicate your impact.

I am having trouble registering. Who do I contact?

FUNDRAISING

How will my money be used?

We invest donations responsibly and effectively, saving and transforming the lives of tens of thousands of children and their families in dozens of countries. Our administrative costs are approximately 7%, well below average for the charitable sector.

Since we launched in 2011, nearly 70% of the donations we receive go directly to funding our life-saving programs. This percentage is comparable to other international, child-focused organizations of whom you might be aware. We're very proud of this achievement and hope to improve on it in the years to come.

The remainder is reinvested in revenue-generating activities. Please understand that raising funds is critical to our capacity to survive and continue helping children. We are only able to carry out our vital work by asking caring people like yourself to join us and help create a world where no child suffers from lack of access to safe surgical care.

How do I donate to support a participant or a team?

  1. Click on the "Donate Now" button at the top of the page
  2. Search the person's first or last name or team name
  3. Click the magnifying glass icon to search
  4. Click on the person or team to go to their Cycle for SMILES fundraising page
  5. Click on "Donate Today"

Will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?

Yes, all online donations of $10 or more are provided an immediate tax receipt. Tax receipts will be emailed to you promptly after you make your online donation. If you choose to donate by cheque, tax receipts will be mailed within 10 days of processing.

I have received cash/cheque donations. What should I do with them?

That's great! When you collect cash or cheques for your fundraising efforts, please mail to the attention of the Cycle for SMILES team at:

Download the offline donation form to track gifts collected to ensure we can properly track and receipt your supporters.

Note: We prefer and encourage you not to send cash via mail. Consider taking the cash to the bank and getting a money order or writing a cheque from your personal account. Please ensure we have the full name and address information for the actual donors, and we will add them to your fundraising total when received.

  1. Click on Forgot Username and/or Password on the login page.
  2. Follow the steps to request a password reset.

How do I change my online fundraising goal?

  1. Log into your Cycle for SMILES Participant Centre
  2. Scroll down to Your Fundraising Progress
  3. Click Edit Goal
  4. Enter the NEW Goal Amount
  5. Click Save

How do I change the picture on my personal fundraising page?

  1. Log into your Cycle for SMILES Participant Centre
  2. Scroll down to Personal Page
  3. Select Update Media - Images must be .gif, .jpg or .png files.
  4. Click on Choose File button and find the picture you want to use
  5. Click Save/Upload

How do I change the messaging on my fundraising page?

  • Log into your Cycle for SMILES Participant Centre
  • Scroll down to Personal Page
  • Select URL Settings to create your customized URL
  • Select Edit Content to Change Title and Customized Message
  • Click the Save Button

How do I send an email to my personal network from my online Participant Centre?

  1. Log into your Cycle for SMILES Participant Centre
  2. Select Email Tab
  3. Enter the Recipient’s Email Address. To enter multiple email addresses, use a comma in-between addresses
  4. Select Blank Message and Enter Subject Line
  5. Draft Email Message
  6. Select Preview/Send

Can I send a Thank You email to my donors?

Absolutely, and we definitely encourage you to do so.

  1. Log into your Cycle for SMILES Participant Centre
  2. Click on the Email tab
  3. Select the Donor(s) you wish to Thank
  4. Select Email Group or Email Selected
  5. Follow Prompts
  6. Preview/Send

How do I post my personal fundraising page link to my social media platforms?

  1. Log into your Cycle for SMILES Participant Centre
  2. Copy your personal fundraising page URL
  3. Log into your social media account of choice
  4. Write your post - add a personal message to the post and paste your personal fundraising page link (link in bio for Instagram)
  5. Click Share/Post
